Incense, Music, and Celebrating Dunhuang

by Chong Yuan Chien 袁旔 (Singapore, 新加坡)

The ancient Chinese city of Dunhuang served as a gate between Eastern and Western Asia. Travellers of diverse ethnicities and religions passed through here, including Han, South Asians, Xiongnu, Scythians, Sogdians, Persians, Greeks, Romans and Caucasians.

What these sojourners left behind have become traces of history. Today, Dunhuang is a cultural treasure trove of texts, arts, religious artifacts, murals, and carvings as evidence for a bygone era.

Join independent researcher and feature writer Chong Yuan Chien in this talk which aims to introduce some of Dunhuang’s highlights, from its texts, religion, thought, art, costume to folk practices.
