Oiwa and who else? – Looking beyond J-horror

Dr Lim Beng Choo (Singapore)

When we talk about “J-horror” the first image that comes to mind is probably that of a woman with long black hair in a white long dress lurking behind unsuspected people and scaring them to death. There are actually a large number of supernatural creatures that are related to “J-horror”, ranging from a vengeful female ghost like Oiwa to disgruntled early Heian court official. In this talk audience members will be introduced to the fascinating world of J-horror characters and what have they done to be classified as “horror.”
