A transcendental electro-orchestral suite inspired by a tragic tale
From the seeds of tragedy comes an emotionally-charged 12-part song cycle built on Brazilian rhythms, orchestral scoring, diverse vocal performances and subtle electronics.
Written by Tamil Rogeon, one of Australias most innovative composers, this cinematic suite is a meditation on the themes of vice, impetuosity and extinguished youth, as it paints the final hours of young expat who was gunned down by off-duty police whilst celebrating his 30th birthday in the Rio de Janeiro party district of Lapa.
Joining Tamil to perform 24 Hours in Lapa live are some of Australias leading musicians; Doug de Vries on guitar and cavacou;, Ben Vanderwal on drums, electronic sampling by Dan West and vocalist Bobby Valentine. Providing the lush symphonic harmonies is Singapores very own Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, a professional ensemble which shares a rich history with SIFA as it first started out as the resident orchestra for the Singapore Arts Festival in 2007. The show will also feature emerging Singaporean rapper omarKENOBI, best known as one third of hiphop group Mediocre Haircut Crew.
